Administration

The Library has a Librarian, Thramu Elta, (Dip Theol., B.A, Dip. in Library Science) who supervises library work, makes decision, represent the library at the meeting of the Seminary, handlers correspondence, takes care of the purchasing and ordering of books, catalogues and helps staff and students who are using the library.

Number of Books
The Library now contains approximately 17,510 books such as 12,635 in English, 3354 in Burmese, and 1505 in Karen. In addition to purchases made, generous donations and gifts have helped build up the library. Generally, the Library books are of good quality and in relevance with the Seminary's fields of studies. Starting from the 2003-2004 academic year, our Library has acquired Computerized System.

Cataloguing
The Dewey Decimal classification is used. The classified catalogue cards
are filed as follows:

b. Tital Card
c. Subject Card
d. Shelf List
e. Central File

Usage and Service

  1. At the beginning of the academic year students orientate themselves in the use of the library and guidance is given by the librarians. Rules and regulations of the library are posted on the school and library notice boards, and are also included in the student handbook.

  2. The Library is used by students and staff for acquiring Theological and Biblical knowledge

  3. as well as for information on secular matters. The Library encourages students to use the
    library freely and allow them to have quiet discussion and informed reading. It is opened to
    all churches under K.B.C. , M.B.C. and all students and staff of the Theological School Association.
  4. Reference Desk- encyclopedias, dictionaries, Bible commentaries, atlases, handbooks, yearbook, etc…

  5. Reserve Books - are set aside for use in connection with current courses. These are loaned overnight or for the weekend, and are due to be returned at opening time the next day.
  6. Books for circulation -may be borrowed for home use for a period of two weeks. If a book is not in demand, the loan may be renewed for one more week. A member is allowed to borrow three books. In case fo over due, a fine of five kyats per day for each book is payable. Religious pictures and other materials are loaded according to the needs.
  7. Central File- cards are filed by classified numbers. Rules are provided in regard to the loan, and the books may be treated as reserved books.
  8. Library Information Services


A List of accessible books together with educational information and campus news are posted at monthly intervals on library notice board. Also a list of circulation rules is posted on the library notice board. A chart showing the location of books on different subject and their numbers is displayed for consultation.


Provision of Available Literature in National Language (s)
The total collection of national Language Literature has amounted to (1500)books. The collection comprises of the following:

Journals and Periodicals
The library currently receives report from Church bodies, and periodical bulletin from the World Council of churches, Baptist World Alliance, Myanmar Council of Churches, Myanmar Baptist Convention and Karen Baptist Convention. The collection includes national language periodicals both secular and religions.

Sister Library
The Myanmar Institute of Theology Library is also available for the use of our staff and students.

Books and Translation Fund
Our Seminary also has fund for writing and translating books in Karen language. Donations are given from time to time by W.C.C, The foundation for Theoligical Education in South East Asia, etc. for books and translation fund. We also welcome those who wish to contribute books and other donations to our library.
